Delaware Heritage Commission: Promotes Delaware history and heritage.  Learn about upcoming events and the summer camps.  One may also find an index to 1,500 oral histories, a scrapbook, and Governors' histories.

Delaware History Museum:  Operated by the Historical Society of Delaware. Exhibits focus on Delaware history.

Delaware State Historic Preservation Office:  State office charged with preserving historic sites around Delaware.  Find an outline of Delaware prehistory describing arrowheads and spear points.

Delaware State Museums:  In charge of eight museums including: John Dickinson Plantation, New Castle Court House Museum, Delaware State Visitor Center, Delaware Archaeology Museum, The State House, Museum of Small Town Life, Zwaanendael Museum, Johnson Victrola Museum  One will also find links to horticultural highlights, the DeBraak Shipwreck Site, and the Underground Railroad.

Ellis Island: Search an online database of Ellis Island records.  Contains ship manifest lists of passengers from 1892 to 1924 for the Port of New York and Ellis Island.

FamilySearch:  The Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints website.  Allows one to search Vital Statistics, Social Security Death Index and more.  This site provides helpful research guides for each state and information about the Family History Library.

Ancestry.com:  Commercial site that allows you to search a Social Security Death Index for free.  One must pay a subscription for most of the other searches and services. 

Immigrant Ships Transcribers Guild:  Created by volunteers, this site allows one to search over  4,500 ships.  One can search by passenger surname, captain's name, date, Ship's name, port of departure, and port of arrival.  

PublicLibraries.com:  Geographic listing of all U.S. public libraries with web sites.

USGenWeb Project:  A non-profit site supported  by volunteers.  Find research tips and information for each state including Delaware.  A large source of census information, marriages, obituaries, pensions, and church records. 
 

US History

American Indian History and Related Issues:  Offered by the American Indian Studies Program at California State University, Long Beach  "... is dedicated to the presentation of unique artwork, photographs, video and sound recordings which accurately reflect the history, culture and richness of the Native American experience in North America and has been expanded to include Indian people of  Central America and Mexico."  Many links to other sites provided.

American Cultural History: The Twentieth Century: This website serves as a pathfinder to cultural and historical information on the Internet.  The information is broken down by decades.  Compiled and maintained by the Kingwood College reference librarians. 

Emma Goldman Papers Project:  Selections from Emma Goldman's speeches, newspaper articles, and other publications.  Goldman lived from 1869 to 1940 and participated in many radical movements including labor unions, birth control, and free speech.  A curriculum for middle and high school students is also provided.  The Emma Goldman Papers' primary sponsor is the National Historical Publications and Records Commission of the National Archives in Washington.

Gateway to African American History:  "...the Office of International Information's Gateway to African American History, which has been established to assist its international audience in acquiring information on the rich and varied contributions of African Americans to the culture and history of the United States and the world."  Find information about Amistad, Martin Luther King, Jr., the Civil Rights Movement and more.  Many links to sites with more information.

IPL POTUS: The Internet Public Library's subject guide to the Presidents of the United States.  Chronological listing of the Presidents with links to information about their elections, cabinet members, biographies and notable events. 

Library of Congress - American Memory:  The Library of Congress offers more than seven million digital items relating to American History.  The collections can be searched.  Collections range  from a multitude of times and subject matter.  Some collections are African American Sheet Music from 1850 - 1920, Baseball and Jackie Robinson,  Civil War, Thomas Jefferson, the WPA,  Voices from the Dust Bowl and more.

New Deal Network: Source of primary documents including articles, photos, and speeches.  This site also includes lesson plans and work done by students.  "The New Deal Network is an educational guide to the Great Depression of the 1930s. The New Deal Network is sponsored by the Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt Institute and the Institute for Learning."

NPS: History:  The National Park Service offers a series of sites that detail different aspects of America's past.  Learn more about the Underground Railroad, the Klondike Gold Rush, and lighthouses.

NPS: Military History:  The National Park Service offers a series of military history web sites.  Civil war sites provide information on battles and a search able database on soldiers and sailors. Learn more about Valley Forge, historic battle sites, and more.

United States Historical Census Data:  An educational resource that allows one to search for general population and economic census information from 1790-1960.  The site was constructed by the Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR).  Site has not been updated since 1998.
 

World History

BBC History: Read about different topics from British history from ancient times to post WWII.  One can learn by topic, timeline, people or place.  Many great articles on WWII.

Diotima: Women and Gender in the Ancient World:  Scholarly source of information about women in the ancient world.  Contains a searchable bibliography, primary sources in translation, and links to images.

Holocaust Chronicle:  An online book of over 800 pages with 1,800 images, that details the  Jewish Holocaust from it roots to through the aftermath of WWII.  The site includes an index and search engines by keyword and date.

Holocaust Survivors:  Read stories about how people survived the the Holocaust during World War II.  Includes a photo gallery, audio gallery, encyclopedia, and links to other related websites. 

Vikings:  Viking Heritage Magazine designed a large site with maps, chronology, pictures and a who's who of vikings.  Searchable databases cover topics such as museums, sites, excavations and more.
