Web site Link Selection Criteria
The Wilmington Library offers the Subject Guide service to assist
library patrons in finding information online. This service is aimed
at the general adult population of Wilmington. For children, the
library has found several reliable websites. These children's sites can
be accessed from the home page by selecting "Just for Kids" and clicking
on "Internet Space Adventures." The Library
always recommends parents monitor their children's Internet use.
Each web site was looked at and judged by a librarian
on the following criteria:
-
Authority. Who oversees the content of the web site.
A reliable source is someone who has experience and is knowledgeable about
the topic covered in the web site.
-
Content. The information on the web site must be reliable,
of reasonable size and of sufficient value to the community at large.
Quality information is a high priority.
-
Information Maintenance. The information must be updated or
maintained. Some sites contain information that does not change often,
like history or archive sites. But, someone should be responsible for checking
that the site still works properly and is still pertinent.
While each website will be judged, the library does
not take any responsibility for the information contained on any of the
sites. Sites may frequently move, change their address, or disappear.
The Library has no control over this. The Library recommends each
person evaluate the sites for themselves before using any information.
If you have any questions or would like to recommend
a website, please e-mail the webmaster.
The Library reserves the right to decide which websites should be added
to the Subject Guides.
You may also contact the librarian in charge of the website by writing
